Report for STOIC Committee Meeting 1 22/10/2002 ***Head of Technical's Report*** Various people in Media Group have been discussing / dealing with the transmission and outside broadcast systems for some months now. It has recently been "officialised" in the form of a media group focus group. We hope to have a brand new transmission system / outside broadcast system (transport and protocol) up and running withing the next few months. We are currently looking into real time streaming over the existing CCS infrastructure. This would allow us to broadcast anywhere in college at a high quality and talk has arisen of potentially broadcasting anywhere in the world at a much lower quality. People seem to be making programmes now. - If anybody has any problems with the kit, they should let me know at technical@stoictv.com. The Vision Mixer still needs some attention, as does the Abekas and the video matrix. James has / will mention the edit suites. Various bodges, etc are /still/ missing. There was an inventory of the bodges in the bodge box, but this also seems to have gone astray. - Bodges are only little, but still very expensive. People seem to be careless with them and we loose many. The inventory has been found! wrt studio lights, bulbs are being looked into. It would appear that some of the "permenant" lighting has been moved around. As such we now have no lighting on our "chat show" set. The result of this is that we cannot interview anybody in the studio. There still appears to be some lighting on the news set. The situation with safety chains has improved - all lights now have chains or steels. We should be looking to be using steels instead of chains wherever possible.
