Report for STOIC Committee Meeting 1 22/10/2002 ***Head of Publicity's Report*** Stoic has achieved fame. And lots of it. I'm sure I don't need to mention to anyone reading this about the technicalities, but the hit counter on the website has gone up by about 5000 since this time last week, webstreams are hitting the limits (in windows media, since logs aren't available for real or downloads of MPEGs, AFAIK) Amongst the places we've been mentioned: BBC news education on IC stories (plus credited with several quotes from footage placed on the website) The NaSTA website (www.nasta.org.uk) - with a link to one of the BBC stories Live! have credited us with a lot of things, and referenced to some of the things on our website. We also now have a banner on the front page of their site, thanks to AndyG. The protest (union.ic.ac.uk/protest I think..... the union sites appear to be down at this moment in time) site has us as one of the main sites to visit on the subject, and 2 photos have stoic members in- one is of AndyG and Sameena interviewing Andy Heeps, and in another one, you can just about make out a blurred image of myself. We remain as a link on the front page of the union site. People are watching stoic! Not only did a banner at the protest proclaim "We are not interested in increasing the financial burden on students", attributing the quote to one Richard Sykes in May 2001 (pictured on a bbc story at http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/education/2339265.stm ) , we also have the streaming statistics (again, only for windows media), and on Friday in the bar, random hacks were mentioning the news less than an hour after we put it up, after learning that there were stoic people at the table. Transmission would be VERY nice, given the college-wide interest in what we've got to show at the moment..... but there's not much I can do on that other than poke the appropriate people. I can't think of anything else right now......
